FIRST VICE | PAUL MCNAMARA

Comrade Legionnaires,

Well, the election season is starting to go into full swing.  November is right around the corner.  If you have ever run for office as I have the time goes by like the blink of the eye.

As you might imagine, running for office makes one a little more sensitive to the importance of voting so I would like to share a few thoughts.

First, thanks to you and your service to our country, the peaceful exchange of power still exists in our country even if it is contentious at times.  We almost take it for granted but when you think about it, there are still plenty of countries where power is exchanged peacefully.

Second, your vote does matter. I have heard just like you that in a pool of millions of votes my one little vote doesn’t make a difference. I would disagree and here’s why.  In order to vote one has to inform themselves about the issues and by doing so you join a community conversation about the direction of your community, state and country.  Your voice matters!! It can influence others.

Third, join a party. I don’t care what side of the aisle you are on, you can’t influence the party’s candidate choices from being on the outside.  And spoil alert, there will be times when you disagree with the party direction or choices.

Fourth, while it may be fun to speculate who wins the Presidential election, it’s the local electeds who influence your life in a bigger way than you may expect.  Get involved and find out who is running, do they share my values, and do they have the experience to be successful.

Finally, the Fourth is just around the corner.  Happy Fourth of July.  Thanks to you we are able to celebrate this day every year.  Thank you!

See you at the Post.
